A gold necklace is often more than its chain. Pendants, lockets, pearls, diamonds and a designer signature all add value that a scale can’t see. At Benadato we weigh and test the gold in front of you, grade any stones on their own line and account for the maker. If you accept the offer, you’re paid the same day.
What Sets the Price of a Gold Necklace
The Gold
The karat stamp is usually on the clasp: 10K, 14K or 18K, or 417, 585 or 750. We test it with professional equipment while you watch, then weigh the necklace in grams. Weight times purity times today’s spot price gives the melt value, the floor of every offer we make. If the necklace is a plain chain with no pendant or stones, our page on how to sell gold chains covers it in detail.
Pendants and Lockets
A pendant is weighed and tested on its own, because it isn’t always the same karat as the chain. Lockets, medallions and charms are priced the same way.
Diamonds, Gemstones and Pearls
Many gold buyers pay for the metal only. We price stones separately, because that’s our specialty. Michael Nedler, our GIA accredited since 1981, grades diamonds and gemstones during your visit. For pieces where the stones carry most of the value, see sell a diamond necklace. Pearl strands with gold clasps are welcome too: see sell pearls.
The Designer
A Tiffany necklace or a Cartier pendant is worth more than its gold weight, and we account for that in the offer. Signed pieces from Van Cleef & Arpels, Bulgari and David Yurman are valued as jewelry, and original boxes and papers help. Read more on our sell Tiffany jewelry and sell Cartier jewelry pages.
Condition
A broken clasp, a snapped chain or a missing stone doesn’t change the gold. There’s no need to repair anything before you sell.
Gold Necklaces We Buy
- Pendant necklaces, lockets and charm necklaces
- Diamond and gemstone necklaces set in gold
- Collars, chokers and statement necklaces

Melt Value or Jewelry Value?
Every necklace is priced one of two ways. If it can be worn and resold as it is, it may earn more than its melt value. If it can’t, we pay 67% to 95% of melt value, depending on the weight and nature of the piece. We’ll tell you which applies to yours, and why, before we talk numbers. To estimate the gold yourself first, read how much is my gold worth.

Straight shooters, which I appreciated.
Incredibly professional and knowledge. Great experience all around!
I had a wonderful experience at Benadato Trading Co. Yossi was friendly, professional, and very knowledgeable. Previously, I took some jewelry to a jewelry store and received a bid. I gave Yossi the same items, and his bid was higher, thus demonstrating his honesty. Not only did I feel comfortable the entire time I was there, It was an enjoyable and memorable experience. Highest rating.
Absolutely phenomenal service. The entire process was professional to a degree that you feel when you are shopping in couture stores. Yossi and his staff all introduced themselves, I felt comfortable, respected, and the offer was beyond what I even expected to receive. Tip: go to the elevator inside and go to the 5th floor!
Gold Necklace Selling FAQs
What is the best way to sell a gold necklace?
Sell it to a buyer who knows jewelry, not just gold. The gold should be weighed and tested in front of you, and pendants, stones and designer names should each be priced separately.
How much will I get if I sell a gold necklace?
Start with melt value: weight in grams, times purity, times the spot price per gram. Stones, designer value and condition can add to that number.
How much is 14K gold to sell?
14K gold is 58.5% pure, so its melt value is 58.5% of the gold spot price per gram. Our sell your gold page lists the current figure for every karat.
Is it worth selling gold jewelry right now?
Gold prices are near record highs, which makes this a strong time to sell pieces you no longer wear. We price every necklace against the live gold market on the day of your visit.
Do you buy gold-plated necklaces?
Gold-plated jewelry has only a thin surface layer of gold, so it usually has little value. Gold-filled pieces contain more gold, and for those we can pay after refining.
