A gold ring is one of the easiest pieces to sell and one of the easiest to undersell. Its value sits in the band, in the stones and sometimes in the name inside it, and many buyers only pay for the first. At Benadato we weigh and test your ring in front of you, price the gold on today’s spot price and price any diamonds or gemstones on their own line. If you accept the offer, you’re paid the same day.
What We Look at When You Sell a Gold Ring
Every ring gets the same evaluation, whether it’s a plain 10K band or a signed 18K ring with a center stone. Here is what goes into the number.
The Karat
Look inside the band. A stamp of 10K, 14K or 18K, or the numbers 417, 585 or 750, tells you how much of the ring is pure gold. 14K is 58.5% gold and 18K is 75%. We still test every ring with professional equipment, because stamps wear down and are sometimes wrong. GF, GP or HGE mean gold-filled or plated, which contain far less gold.
The Weight
Rings are light, so a fraction of a gram matters. We weigh yours on a calibrated scale, in grams, while you watch. Weight times purity gives the exact amount of pure gold, and that amount times today’s spot price gives the melt value.
Diamonds and Gemstones
This is where selling to a diamond specialist pays off. A 14K ring with a one-carat diamond is worth far more than its gold weight. Michael Nedler, our GIA accredited since 1981, grades the stones during your visit, so the offer covers the whole ring. For rings where the stone carries most of the value, see where to sell a diamond ring and sell your engagement ring.
The Maker
Signed rings from Cartier, Tiffany & Co., Van Cleef & Arpels, Bulgari and David Yurman are valued as jewelry, so they typically earn well above melt. Original boxes and papers help. See sell designer jewelry for more on signed pieces.
Condition
A bent, cracked or resized ring is worth exactly what its gold is worth. There’s no need to repair or polish anything before you come in. A ring that can be worn again as it is can earn more than melt.

What Is a Gold Ring Worth?
Start with melt value. Here is a simple example for a 5-gram 14K band:
| Step | Example |
| Weight of the ring | 5 grams |
| Karat | 14K (58.5% gold) |
| Pure gold content | 2.93 grams |
| Stones and brand | Priced separately |
Multiply the pure gold content by the day’s spot price per gram and you have the melt value. We try to buy jewelry for what it’s worth, not just pay for the gold. If a ring isn’t resalable, we pay 67% to 95% of melt value, depending on the weight and nature of the piece. Wearable or designer rings often earn more. How to Sell Your Gold Ring
- Book a free appraisal. Call +1-888-625-0232 or use the form on this page, and we’ll set aside time for you at our private office at 100 Fillmore St, Denver.
- We test and make you an offer. Your ring is weighed and tested in front of you, and any stones are graded on the spot. You get an itemized offer, explained line by line, with no pressure to accept.
- Get paid the same day. If you accept, you’re paid before you leave, by wire, Zelle, Venmo, check or cash.
Most appointments take 30 to 60 minutes. Bring every ring you’re thinking about selling, along with any other gold, and we’ll evaluate each piece in the same visit.
Not in Denver?
We buy from anywhere in the world. Contact us for a shipping manifest and an insured FedEx label. Once your package arrives, we’ll call you with an offer within 1 to 2 business days and pay the same day you accept. See how to ship your items safely.
Before You Sell a Gold Ring
- Don’t remove the stones. Bring the ring as it is. Taking stones out yourself risks chipping them.
- Find the paperwork. A GIA report, a receipt or the original box isn’t required, but it can raise the offer.
- Check the spot price. It moves every trading day and it’s the starting point of every fair offer.
- Compare cash to cash. Store credit or a mail-in estimate isn’t the same as money paid today. Bring any written offer and we’ll do our best to beat it.
Selling other gold too? We also buy gold chains, gold necklaces, gold bracelets and gold earrings, and our main sell your gold page covers every type of gold we buy.

Straight shooters, which I appreciated.
Incredibly professional and knowledge. Great experience all around!
I had a wonderful experience at Benadato Trading Co. Yossi was friendly, professional, and very knowledgeable. Previously, I took some jewelry to a jewelry store and received a bid. I gave Yossi the same items, and his bid was higher, thus demonstrating his honesty. Not only did I feel comfortable the entire time I was there, It was an enjoyable and memorable experience. Highest rating.
Absolutely phenomenal service. The entire process was professional to a degree that you feel when you are shopping in couture stores. Yossi and his staff all introduced themselves, I felt comfortable, respected, and the offer was beyond what I even expected to receive. Tip: go to the elevator inside and go to the 5th floor!
Gold Ring Selling FAQs
What is the best way to sell a gold ring?
Sell it to a buyer who tests the gold in front of you, prices it on the day’s spot price and grades any stones separately. That way the offer reflects the whole ring.
Where can I get the most money for a gold ring?
Usually from a jewelry and diamond buyer rather than a pawn shop or a cash-for-gold kiosk. Pawn shops price for their own risk, and gold-only buyers often ignore the stones and the maker.
How much is a 14K gold ring worth to sell?
14K gold is 58.5% pure, so the melt value is 58.5% of the gold spot price per gram, times the ring’s weight. Stones, brand and condition are priced on top of that.
Do you buy broken gold rings?
Yes. A cracked or bent ring is priced on weight and purity, the same as a perfect one.
Do I need a receipt or certificate?
No. Most rings we buy arrive without paperwork. If your ring has a diamond, Michael Nedler grades it during your visit.
