How We Price Your Gold
We don’t hand you a number without an explanation.
- Karat. Karat tells you how much of the piece is pure gold. For example, 14K is 58.5% gold and 18K is 75%. We test it with professional equipment rather than relying on the stamp, because stamps can be worn or wrong.
- Weight. We weigh every piece on a calibrated scale, in grams, in front of you.
- Today’s spot price. Pure gold is priced on the live market rate, not a fixed number that favors the buyer. We’ll show you the current spot price during your visit.
- Diamonds and gemstones. Many gold buyers pay for the metal only. We price diamonds and other stones as a separate line. If your piece is a diamond ring, our sell diamonds page explains how stones are evaluated.
- Brand and maker. A Cartier bracelet or a Tiffany necklace is worth more than its gold weight, and we account for that in the offer.

- Check today’s spot price. It moves every trading day, and it’s the starting point of every fair offer.
- Look for the karat stamp. 10K, 14K and 18K are solid gold. GF, GP or HGE mean gold-filled or plated, which contain far less gold.
- Don’t repair or clean anything. Broken gold is worth the same as perfect gold, and stones are priced separately.

Gold-plated jewelry has only a thin surface layer of gold, so it usually has little value. Gold-filled pieces contain more gold; for those we can pay after refining, so you receive the true gold value.

Yes. Broken chains, single earrings, bent rings and tangled necklaces are all worth bringing in. Broken gold is still gold, and we pay for it by weight and purity.
